I am extremely blessed to be able to get to know so many of South Africa’s darlings and learning more about what makes them tick. It has taken a little bit longer than anticipated to continue with my Day in the Life of segments, but after learning a little bit about Janine Kitty Bee, I’m sure you can forgive my tardiness. Remember that if you have an outstanding South African Beauty that you think needs time in the spotlight, please contact me and I’ll do the rest!
A Day in the life of Janine Kitty B
What time does your alarm go off in the morning?
9am, I’m more of a night owl, love getting my work done after dark! Not a fan of early mornings!
What is your alarm tone?
Kat von D vs. Megan Massacre?
I love Kat von D she’s great but as an artist and fashion icon, I’d have to choose Megan!!
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
To be a stand up comedian! Trust me it takes super powers to make people laugh!!!!!
Is there a Mr. B waiting in the wings for you?
Yeah, this Kitty is spoken for!
You’re great at multi-tasking; can you pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time?
Sadly my arms are constantly cramping from holding a coffee cup, putting ideas into my iPhone and designing (at the same time) so ….. let me just put down my sewing needle….ah yes I can!!!
The serious stuff…
As the fabulous brain child of the rapidly growing Black Heart Parlour, Black Heart Parlour Girls and Kitty Bee Photography; when did you realize that you needed to make your dreams a reality?
Sitting in jobs I hated! I am constantly full of ideas and love being creative, the day I started counting down the minutes to 5pm I really needed change! Its very scary taking the plunge and working for yourself but I don’t regret a single minute! Loving being my own boss!
Being a hard hitter in the Alternative world of accessories, what inspired you to create your brand?
All the stuff I loved being exclusively for overseas. I used to sit for hours dreaming over Hot Topic (USA) website and Beserk Clothing (Aus) thinking “Why is this stuff so expensive? Why can’t we get it here?” Local is lekker, especially at a good affordable price! Plus I was listening to a lot of Joan Jett and 80s chick rock band Heart at the time… I’m a old school rocker at heart!! haha.
Tell us about the BHP Girls and what they’re doing with you Don’t Bully our Breed campaign?
BHP Girls was born out of my love for Photography, I thought how can I merge all three of my businesses. And this was it! Its really great as all the BHP Girls were fans of Black Heart Parlour first, we met through the love of Alternative fashion, now we’re like a mini family. We have big things planned for BHP Girls…. I can’t deny or confirm world domination is on our list!
We’re all animal lovers, and for me especially, I hold Pitbulls close to my heart, currently owning 3 of them. I really dislike the breed discrimination and misconceptions about bully breeds. I was introduced to CHARM (Caring Hearts Animal Rescue) and heard about the great work they do in the rescue and safe re-homing of Pitties so I really wanted to help them out as they are not so well known but do great work within the rescue community. Best way we could help? We designed a kick ass shirt with 70% profits go towards CHARM!
Your models and photography is featured on the cover of Reaper Magazine; how does that feel knowing how young your BHP Girl brand is?
I was extremely blessed to have the opportunity. And I’m so proud of the way it turned out. I hope this puts BHP on the map! We’re here to stay!
Words of wisdom before you go?
